I live in Nassau county where municipal water comes from ground sources. The entire aquifer is polluted from industrial waste from the 1950s and space programs. Water in this area tastes horrible. Using the filter makes it tolerable to drink. I can make no claims as to its effectiveness in removing industrial pollutants. We recently received warnings about pfas chemicals in the water.
I cut one open after 6 months of use. It is a compressed carbon block. No floss or any other filter material was noted. Water flows through the compressed carbon block which acts as a filter.

These water filters for my GE refrigerator are SO much cheaper than the OEM filters. My local tapwater has a relatively high mineral content and does have an undesirable taste and these filters do a reasonably good job of making the water more palatable. I would say that there is some lingering tapwater taste; however, this is not at all terrible and is a noticeable improvement. The filtered water have about 20% reduction in the total dissolved solids when compared to water straight from my tap according to my meter. Measurements of distilled water and bottled water are for reference. Unfortunately, I threw away my OEM GE filter that came with the refrigerator out so I don’t have data for a direct comparison, but I would say that the GE filter is marginally better based off taste. Again, I do think that these third-party filters are good especially considering the price. Overall, happy with the product and taste; would recommend. 4/5 stars.

This filter would not allow the water flow to be activated in a GE Model GNE25. I thought I was doing something wrong on the install, so I took the new PurePlus filter out and reinstalled the older original GE filter. Water would flow with the old filter. Repeated the install process again with the PurePlus filter and the same outcome…water would not flow into the door dispenser.
